Splendid bars and restaurants, the exciting and culturally rich carnival every August and the weekend market at Portobello Road, all add to the charm of this one time poor relation within the Kensington and Chelsea Borough. Notting Hill has come a long way since it was known as the potteries in the 19th century (because of a pottery works nearby) or the piggeries (due to the 3-1 ratio of pigs to people).

Knightsbridge is rightly renowned for being the home of the internationally famous stores, Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Also in the area is Sloane Street where visitors can find the great designers. But Knightsbridge is not all about shopping; cultural diversions can be found in the museums off the Cromwell Road (Science, Victoria & Albert and Natural History) and leisurely pursuits in either Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens.
